You may be aware from my past blog posts where I mentioned that I have this specific mission to visit as many museums or galleries as I can in Singapore this year. Museum visit has literally becomes my main activity on most of my weekend in 2024, particularly on the weekends when I have no other planned event and also when I did not head back to Malaysia.
Singapore is a very small country but surprisingly boasts over 50 museums or galleries. Yes…that’s true. Unbelievable, isn’t it? As the title for this post suggested, I have crossed a milestone yesterday and the milestone is that I have visited over 40 museums/galleries. That’s quite remarkable. A bulk of them were visited within this year. To cross over the 40-mark, I made visit to not one, but three places back-to-back yesterday.
The first one is the Singapore Mobility Gallery. Located within the compound of Land Transport Authority’s (LTA) offices, the gallery hosts a number of interactive activities and multi-sensory exhibits that provide a behind-the-scenes look at how LTA plans, designs and builds the country’s land transport system while balancing efficiency, liveability and inclusivity as it leverages technology for smarter urban mobility. The gallery is divided into seven zones and admission is free. There were a lot of school kids during my visit and I couldn’t try on most of the interactive stuff. Anyway, many of those are targeted for children.

The next one I visited is the Centre for Ethnobotany located in Singapore Botanic Gardens. I visited this gardens last weekend too but I missed this museum that time. Hence, I came back for it. This two-storey small museum features artefacts and exhibition which showcase traditional knowledge and customs from our region relating to plants and their uses. The museum complements the Ethnobotany Garden right across.

I then went to Singapore General Hospital (SGH); not for medical treatment but to specifically visit its museum (called SGH Museum in short). The museum is housed in the Bowyer Block, an iconic architectural landmark of the SGH campus that is gazetted as one of the national monuments of the country. The museum presents the history of the hospital that spans over 200 years and traces the development of medical specialties and education in Singapore.

Funny thing is…I have the song ‘Apt.’ kept repeating in my mind while writing this post. This song by Rose and Bruno Mars instantly becomes a worldwide hit when it is released last month. I kept humming to the catchy chorus today without me even noticing it. Haha….it’s really very addictive and it appears in most of my Facebook/Instagram reels nowadays.
