Every major cities in the world have celebrated the beginning of a new year with countdown and fireworks display, and my hometown city, Kuala Lumpur is not an exception. However, the fireworks display over here is very dull and boring, with not much interesting styles or creative patterns to observe. Hence, I’m more interested to pyrotechnic shows from other cities every year. Here below, I have compiled the videos (I have selected the good quality ones) of the fireworks display on major cities in celebrating the new year 2012 which is still ‘hot’ and ‘fresh’.
Sydney, Australia – this is one of the best fireworks display I have ever seen, alongside with London. The final minute is super explosive and amazing, up until it appears as if the harbour bridge is exploding! Definitely a lot of fireworks are used, and the display is really great; along the water and also the city itself!
London, England – I see a new display here, over out from the Big Ben Tower itself, but only at the beginning; the focus is still on the ferris wheel (London Eye) and the waterfront. I like the music synchronisation and the songs chosen are very amazing. It’s a big year for London (London 2012 Summer Olympic Games and Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II), and so they must really celebrate 2012 very hard and exciting!
Taipei, Taiwan – the focus as usual, is over the tallest building of the nation, Taipei 101, in which this year the theme is Double 101 – referring the name of the building itself and also the 101th anniversary of the nation. There are new and interesting patterns of fireworks blowing out from the building, which overall is much more awesome to watch!
Hong Kong, China – the fireworks are displayed all over the city, but in very little amount with no excitement offered. As usual, the most fireworks from building came out from the 2IFC tower. The compliment is over the already beautiful Hong Kong skyline.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates – the fireworks display is around and also from the world tallest building, Burj Khalifa. Hence, when fireworks shoot out from the tower, the whole structure appears to be very thin, but overall, the synchronisation is good, and the sequence is well played.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – as usual, the best fireworks display from KL is from the KLCC Park, right opposite the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. That is definitely not the best among the world, and it is so disappointing that the patterns look so similar every year, and that the fireworks shoot plainly from the ground, but luckily the last minute is finally good.
Seattle, USA – the fireworks are seen blowing out from the iconic tower of the city of Seattle; Space Needle.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – the fireworks are definitely set off from the water facing the city famous for its beaches and mountains.
Singapore – the show is at Marina Bay, which is now the heart of the city surrounded by the famous Marina Bay Sands iconic towers, city’s skyline, the Merlion statue and the Floating Arena.
Berlin, Germany – I find a need to have at least one from Europe (besides than England) and so I picked Berlin.
I have compiled videos for 10 major cities around the world for their new year 2012 fireworks display. For me and for the majority, the best shows observed would have been either the one from Sydney or London. There is always an intense competition in comparing fireworks show from the two cities that are always recognized as the best of the best. I also find it hard to decide which one is the best between the two of them. But I’m very sure my hometown city, Kuala Lumpur definitely needs serious improvement for better standard of fireworks display.
